The Blessings of Ramadan and the Significance of Laylat al-Qadr

The month of Ramadan is considered a month of blessings and forgiveness. Its central emphasis is fasting during daylight hours, along with strengthening one’s relationship with Allah through prayer, worship, and remembrance. Ramadan, in its entirety, holds a unique and prominent status in Islam. Among its greatest blessings is a night of immense value known as Laylat al-Qadr.

Laylat al-Qadr is regarded as the holiest night in the Islamic calendar. It was on this blessed night that the first five verses of the Holy Qur’an were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam). This night occurs during the last ten nights of Ramadan and is found among the odd-numbered nights.

Laylat al-Qadr is a night of remembrance, devotion, and complete submission to Allah, and it is better than a thousand months.

Worshipping Allah on this night brings immense reward. A single act of goodness performed on Laylat al-Qadr carries the reward of worshipping for a thousand months. Dedicating oneself to worship on this sacred night strengthens one’s taqwa and deepens faith. As part of fulfilling the teachings of Islam, Muslims are encouraged to recite the Holy Qur’an, reflect upon its meaning, and help those most in need.

Laylat al-Qadr offers countless rewards for charitable acts and sincere worship. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said: “Whoever stands (in prayer) on the Night of Qadr with faith and hoping for reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”

On this night, angels descend in great numbers due to the abundance of blessings. They are more numerous than the pebbles on the earth. They descend alongside mercy and peace, surrounding gatherings of remembrance and listening attentively to the recitation of the Qur’an.

It is highly recommended to make frequent supplications throughout Ramadan, especially during the last ten nights, and even more so during the odd nights. One of the most recommended supplications for Laylat al-Qadr is:

“O Allah! Verily, You are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.”

Imam Ahmad recorded from Ayesha (رضي الله عنها) that she asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I find the Night of Al-Qadr, what should I say?” He (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) replied: “Say: O Allah! Verily You are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.”

May Allah grant us the ability to worship Him sincerely, seek His forgiveness, repent from our shortcomings, and accept the good deeds we perform in this blessed month. Ameen.
